I’m playing percussion in a Folk/Americana cover band in Portland, Oregon. I had never heard Coast of Marseilles, until our guitar player Jim says, “I got one.” It is such a great song. But I’m bored to tears by everything I find online. I wanna hear Esperanza Spalding, Macy Gray, Brittany Howard, some amazing female vocalist, sit with an acoustic guitar (turned up so load we hear her fingers scratching chords) cover this song! Pleeeease!!
This is Jim on vocals, (from a live recording of our efforts), and the only version of this amazingly beautiful song I dig. Will a kick-ass female vocalist cover this song? Pleease? Pretty please?
"Welcome to our website. It's not a fancy pants website. It doesn't flash or splash our banner is just me goofing off. But I'm the Frontman, it's my job to goof off. And besides, it's free original music get off of me!
Naw, I always challenge up&coming guitar players to try and play Ed's chops by ear. It can't be done. Sure I write and sing the songs, but Eddy is a musical genius. He puts the Anarchy in MGCA.
We wanted to experiment with the idea of stretching natural music rhythm like it was a rubber band. It's a form of "crooked measures" but the rhythms don't change they just bend. The intended result is not cacophony but just a few measures of discomfort.
From Tin Pan Ally to the old Labels, everyone always tried to control music with formulas. Screw formulas, and if our result is that you must be high to "get it," then we're success or failure depending on your point of view.) But we promise, somehow our songs always return to 1-2-3-4 in a mathematical theorem that would drive Newton craaZy. Plus we use bongos with pop music structures... it's Certain Anarchy.
But this website is about two things: Music and Fun. Making music is fun, and my wish for you is that your life is filled with both. If you don't make music, get out there and support Local Music! Every small town from Tucson to Tokyo has a local venue just waiting to fill your night with MUSIC. And Fun.
sO peeeaCe party people. MGCA (dot com) thanks you for your pretty eyeballs. But most importantly your bigass ears. Enjoy the music!"
